Professor Nasir A. Quraishi is a highly experienced Spine Surgeon in Nottingham, providing specialist assessment and surgical care for the full spectrum of spinal conditions. This includes common problems such as lower back pain, leg pain, sciatica and neck pain, as well as complex spinal disorders that may require advanced reconstructive or revision procedures.

Overview

Professor Quraishi specialises in spinal surgery from the base of the skull to the sacrum, including:

  • Minimally invasive spine surgery, including vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty
  • Degenerative spine conditions affecting the cervical and lumbar spine (often associated with neck pain, lower back pain and sciatica)
  • Spinal oncology, trauma and infection
  • Spinal deformity surgery, including complex reconstruction

Training and Fellowship Experience

Professor Quraishi completed his specialist training in leading UK centres including Imperial College London, Cambridge/East Anglia and Manchester. He then undertook advanced fellowship training in Toronto, gaining extensive experience across both spinal orthopaedic and spinal neurosurgery. This included a particular focus on minimally invasive techniques, complex spinal reconstruction and deformity correction.

Clinical Experience and International Fellowships

Professor Quraishi began his consultant career as a Consultant Spine Surgeon in Oxford (locum). He was subsequently awarded the Norman Capner Travelling Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England to the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA, where he further refined advanced surgical techniques in the management of complex spinal tumours and reconstruction.

In 2008, he volunteered in Malawi, Africa, working as the second spine surgeon in the country serving a population of over 10 million people. He has also been a visiting surgeon to spinal units in Bologna, Italy and Vancouver, Canada. In 2014, he was awarded the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) Travelling Fellowship, visiting multiple leading spinal surgery centres in the USA, including New York (Columbia), St Louis, San Diego, San Francisco and Anchorage.

Academic Work, Publications and Medico-Legal Training

Professor Quraishi is an award-winning international presenter and the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations. He is also a faculty member of several international spine societies.

Alongside his surgical training, he completed a Master of Laws, including an honours thesis on Clinical Negligence and the Spine Surgeon. He also completed a PhD on Outcome and Health Related Quality of Life Following Surgery in Spinal Metastases.
